When the Wii came out, Microsoft and Sony began developing their versions of motion controls. Pouring INCREDIBLE amounts of money into the research and development. Sure they one upped the Wii eventually, but it was too late. The novelty wore off and Nintendo is about to once again blow them away with creativity. All the while Nintendo has made profit on every console they sold. They outsold the more expensive, more powerful and less profitable consoles for years, now will they do it again? I think so.

Going under the alias “Project Cafe” the new console appears to be doing away with motion controls. They are upping the specs to be equal or greater than current generation consoles. The real kicker is the controller. They are adding a 6 inch touch screen which could possibly be a portable game machine in and of itself. Their are lots of ideas on how this could be used, but I imagine Nintendo will still have several tricks up their sleeve at E3. One cool thing about it would be choosing your plays in a football game without anyone looking at your screen. Also it is possible that you won’t need a TV (if it has an HD screen) and the console would serve as a transmitter so you could play anywhere in range.

Either way, I think we are going to see Nintendo soar into profits again for creativity. I know historically their games are not as robust (excepting Zelda and few others), but sometimes that is a good thing. I don’t want to play games that demand my whole life. I want some high fun, low investment games that my wife will play too. What do you think, does Nintendo stand a chance?

Nintendo: Please seriously consider my name idea. The Nintendo Flippin’ Awesome.

The Wii 2 will not go by the title Wii 2. Nintendo has never done a 2 and they have decided to go with… are you ready for this? The Nintendo Flippin’ Awesome (NFA). The NFA will not feature 3D or projectors but will be nothing more than an HD Wii with slightly better motion controls and more accurate pointing. The NFA will emphasize social media, and streaming abilities, which are kind of cool and a lot of lame.

However, it will have awesome games such as “Mario: Black Ops”. An intense multiplayer first person shooter starring the cast of Mario, however they will look like real humans, not cartoons. Zombie Mode?

Also you can look forward to Grand Theft Mario Kart. Need I say more? You will take assignments from various warlords such as Bowser, and Wario, and will have to assassinate members from other mobs.

We expect an E3 announcement about the NFA this June. I can’t wait.

Here is my very short list of reasons why the kindle is better:

1. Responsive – The nook touchscreen was annoying. The delay should should have constituted a complete redesign. The kindle is fast and smooth. Like butter on a bald monkey.
2. Battery Life – The nook boasted 10 days. The nook didn’t come close to ten days. I killed the battery within 24 hours of use just because of that annoying touch screen. Also the wifi and other settings are tedious to adjust. The kindle boasted a month. My battery has always been above 80% full, even with heavy use. On the kindle, wifi takes a split second to turn on or off.

5. Page Refreshes Faster

Really the only things that mattered to me were won by the kindle. The only thing I like about the nook was:

1. 1) Native support for .epubs. However, a simple tool (calibre) can convert to the .mobi format for kindle.

So if you like reading without straining your eyes from back lit devices, the kindle seems to dominate.

I have heard a rumor about Transflective LCD’s. If they come out soon I might be kicking myself.

I read many solutions involving posting back from within the java script, but I found this to be the simplest solution. Please let me know if there is a better way or if there is a problem with using this method.

Also I needed the same functionality later on a drop down list. I found there was no “onclientchanged” method in the asp dropdownlist. You have to register the client side method from within your codebehind: http://forums.asp.net/t/1109874.aspx.

Chess can be divided into to two phases. Development is the stage where you are maximizing your mobility, and then there’s the offensive phase where you are using your development to press your advantage against your opponent and move forward.

Sometimes in life it is good to know when it is time go back into the development stage. The stage where you increase you opportunity. Your potential.

This is where I add my own additional thought to what Eric told me. I think ideally you do both at the same time. I have found myself there lately. I have a job where I am making money, (offensive, caching in on the development I have already done) and at the same time, I am still growing my knowledge and experience. I am really blessed. I think once you hit the point where you can’t keep doing both it is time to start thinking about a move. Maybe a move towards all development. Maybe a move towards both. But if your not developing, you’re beginning to retire.
